Fortress Walls of Constantinople

The Walls of Constantinople, or Theodosian Walls, are a defensive fortification for the city of Constantinople. The 5,630-meter-long walls were erected to protect Constantinople from barbarians under Emperor Theodosius II, when the city on seven hills grew beyond the walls envisioned by its founder, Constantine the Great. Construction continued under the direction of the prefect Anthimius from 408 to 413.


Golden Gate - Yedikule Fortress

Yedikule is a fortress, an internal ring fortification located behind the Golden Gate of the wall of Theodosius. Served to prevent the besiegers from entering Constantinople. Construction began in the 5th century and was completed in the 10th and 12th centuries. The fort (Kastellion) had 5 towers and was called Pentapyrgion (Five-towered). It was destroyed during the first fall of the city during the IV Crusade (1204), and restored in 1350 by John IV Cantacuzenus (1341-1354), under whom it received 2 additional towers and the name Heptapyrgion (“Seven Towers”).


Bakulya (Fish) Church

Our Lady of Balikli Greek Monastery is a Greek Orthodox temple located in the Balikli area of ​​Zeytinburnu district in Istanbul. In 559-560, the Eastern Roman Emperor I. It was rebuilt in 1835, since the building built by Justinian II was damaged during the Ottoman Empire and also rebuilt during the Ottoman Empire

Panorama 1453

Located in Istanbul-Topkapi, known as the 1453 Panorama Historical Museum, this museum is a panoramic museum in which the conquest of Istanbul is brought to life through various materials. Work on panoramic painting in the museum was started by 8 artists in 2005 and completed in 2008. This panoramic painting contains 10,000 figure drawings. The destroyed parts of the walls in the painting and the extent of these areas are mapped according to the report submitted to the first mayor of Istanbul, Hizir Bey, on the repair of the walls. The panoramic image is applied to a hemisphere with a diameter of 38 meters. The painting covering the inner surface of the hemisphere is 2350 m2, and the platform with three-dimensional objects between the painting and the visitor platform is 650 m2.


Mihrimah Mosque

A 16th-century mosque located in the Edirnekapi district of the historical center of Istanbul, on top of the Sixth Hill (one of the highest points in the city); a striking symbol of the medieval architecture of the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque was built by the great Sinan for the beloved daughter of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent Mihrimah.


Church of Chora/Kariye

Chora (Kariye) Monastery is one of the most interesting in Istanbul. The decoration with amazing frescoes and mosaics shows a mixture of the Byzantine and Ottoman eras.


Tekfur Palace

Palace of the Last Emperors Small Blachernae Palace, or Tekfur Saray, which combined the walls of one of the last palaces of the Byzantine emperors with the palace of the Ottoman sultans.

Blacherna Church

Church of Our Lady of Blachernae - erected in the 5th century over a healing spring, which was considered the tears of the Virgin Mary. The Blachernae Church was one of the main shrines of Constantinople: the cover and belt of the Mother of God, secretly taken by pilgrims from Jerusalem, were kept here.


Hill Pierre Loti

Hill Pierre Loti is one of the best viewing areas in the city. Once upon a time, the author of the novel “Asiade”, the French sailor and writer Julien Viot (Pierre Loti), was inspired here, it was a love story between a French officer and a young Turkish slave o pasha.
